Ward Richter has a Bachelor of Arts (1969) and a Juris Doctor (1973) from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Following his graduation from law school, Ward clerked for Bruce R. Thompson, United States District Judge for the District of Nevada in Reno, 1973-74. Ward has been practicing with Bell, Moore & Richter since 1974. He has an "AV-Preeminent" rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Ward was one of ten lawyers, five plaintiffs practice attorneys and five defense practice attorneys, who were selected to serve as the charter members of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Ward has served as president of the Wisconsin Chapter.

Ward is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. Ward is the original author of a chapter (Loss of Earning Capacity) in the three volume work entitled Wisconsin Law of Damages. Ward has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for more than twenty years and he was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® as "Lawyer of the Year - 2014 Madison - Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants" and in 2013 Madison Bet-the-Company Litigation "Lawyer of the Year." Ward was selected by the Wisconsin Law Journal as one of the honorees for "Leaders in the Law 2015."

Ward has now tried more than 200 cases to jury verdict.

Ward's practice has been devoted entirely to civil litigation, including concentrations in general liability claims (auto, premises, construction and products liability), defense of lawyers and accountants in professional liability claims, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation as well as commercial litigation. Ward has also served as an expert witness in cases involving legal malpractice and bad faith allegations.
